Project Quasar

Vision: Zero-carbon; Emission free; Reliable; Clean energy; Leadership!

Quasar is pioneering the first Modular Reactor for power generation in the UK to support an efficient power system and to contribute to mitigating climate change to reach the net-zero target well before 2050. Quasar’s SMR power generation units are to be manufactured in factories and then transported as modules to the project site. Quasar meets the challenge of long-term sustainable and flexible power generation, replacing ageing fossil-fired units, enhancing safety performance, and offering optimal economic affordability.

As our planet grapples with the challenges of climate change, a paradigm shift for a new energy supply strategy is under development. Project Quasar is leading the transformation setting the standards for the delivery and supply of reliable and sustainable electricity.

Providing base load energy to the UK

Madhvani International Ltd. (MISA) is the lead sponsor of Project Quasar and is committed to deliver clean, affordable, safe and sustainable base-load SMR generated power to the UK’s power networks by 2028/29.

Power sector development experience

MISA’s experience and background in developing integrated investments for energy generation, as well as for electricity transmission for last-mile connectivity, enable MISA to pioneer Project Quasar’s promise to generate clean and sustainable electricity in the United Kingdom.

Madhvani-MISA dynamism

MISA brings dynamism as the driving force for innovation in enterprise development to benefit Project Quasar’s ambitious SMR power generation goals.

Quasar offers global access to electric power

Considering the advent of SMR technology for generation of electricity, Project Quasar opens immense opportunities for investors and developers to establish small and affordable power generation projects worldwide. In Africa and India, where MISA is developing some of these opportunities and, where more than 1.5 Billion people have no access to electricity, this represents opportunities to generate more than 500GWe for, valued at more than £1Tn worldwide.

Pioneering SMR power generation

MISA is pioneering in the United Kingdom the first-of-a-kind SMR power generation opportunity with an output of c.1GWe power comprising two to three SMR reactor units connecting base-load power supply to the super grid. After rigorous evaluation and analysis of available technologies, MISA has selected GE-Hitachi's BWRX-300 SMR.

ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance)

MISA is committed for Quasar to reach highest Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards MISA is working to ensure that Project Quasar complies with highest standards for sustainability.

Environmental: MISA will ensure that Quasar will exceed highest compliance standards for energy use as well as for ensuring zero-emissions. The optimum methods will be adopted for natural resource conservation and clean-up of contaminated land. Quasar undertakes responsible disposal of hazardous waste and management of toxic emissions. Compliance with government environmental regulations will exceed the minimum standard

Social: Further MISA and Project Quasar will work with suppliers that hold the same values. In keeping with Madhvani History, Quasar will support philanthropic contributions and donations to local, national and international communities. Quasar is encouraging employees to offer volunteer work and will ensure the company’s working conditions show high regard for its employees’ health and safety. Quasar will ensure never to permit worker discrimination with highest working standards for all employees with fair pay and attention to wellbeing, diversity and inclusion, equality, guarding against modern slavery and child labour.

Governance: Quasar will never engage in illegal practices and agrees to adopt accurate and transparent sustainable operations, accounting methods and where appropriate all employees have an opportunity to voice opinions on important issues. Quasar will at all times avoid conflicts of interests in selecting board members, employees, consultants and partners. Quasar will exceed the standards of disclosure, undertaking to subscribe to anti-corruption measures and not to use political contributions to obtain unduly favourable treatment.

Flexibility

Quasar’s advanced modular reactors will in aggregate have the capacity to generate c.1GWe high-angular momentum electricity for continuous and reliable power supplies to the UK’s power networks. Quasar is pioneering a small physical footprint with, reduced capital cost and, flexible operational ability to deliver environmentally clean and safe power generation.

Modular

Quasar’s modular reactors are manufactured in a factory environment and transported to the Quasar site so that they require limited on-site preparation and substantially reduce the lengthy and uncertain construction times that are typical of large nuclear power projects. They offer simplicity of design and enhanced safety features that make it possible to efficiently generate a steam supply system for generation of electricity.

Site flexibility

Quasar’s project will provide power for applications where large plants are not needed and at locations that lack the infrastructure for typical nuclear power stations as will be directed by the Office of Nuclear Regulation and the UK Government’s Site Licensing Policy.

Incremental and economy

Quasar’s generation capacity can be enhanced incrementally and economically through the simple addition of modular reactors depending on demand for power in the future.

Capital investment and cost reduction

MISA is pioneering in the United Kingdom the first-of-a-kind SMR power generation opportunity with an output of c.1GWe power comprising two to three SMR reactor units connecting base-load power supply to the super grid. Project Quasar will see capital investment in this first of a kind project, enabling cost reductions on future similar SMR projects.

Reduced electricity costs

Quasar’s economic competitiveness is rooted in its unique project design for on-time and on-budget project delivery to reduce the cost per kilowatt of electricity on par with current nuclear generation.

Economic opportunities

Project Quasar replaces aging electricity generation assets and meets the UK’s expanding needs for safe and reliable power contributing to significant growth in domestic manufacturing, supply chain, opening vast export opportunities worldwide and creation of high-skilled employment.
